Using the Ribbon
At the top of all Office programs there is a toolbar called the selection ribbon . It is designed to help you quickly find the commands you need to complete a task.
The selection ribbon has tabs and the tabs have groups , with buttons inside them that are menus or commands .
The text or image on the button is often suggestive, but when you hover over the button, an explanation appears. For example, the B button in the image above will have an explanation Bold (Ctrl+B) , which also tells you the corresponding key command.
For example, we may talk about
the Bold command or button in the Font group on the Home tab.
Guide
### The File command
The first command, File , is not part of the selection ribbon proper, but it opens a separate box.
Task: Examine the change in size of the selection ribbon
The selection ribbon does not always look the same. It has plenty of buttons, and Office programs adapt it to the space available. In practice, this means that some groups may be reduced to a button. Clicking on the button opens the contents of the group.

Open a Word document you've already edited or create a new one if you need to.
Narrow and widen the window and see how this affects the selection ribbon.
In the text, click on a word with your mouse and make it bold.
Task: Situational tabs
In addition to the basic tabs, new tabs may appear at the end of the selection ribbon.
For example, if you have selected an image, you will have access to the Picture Format a tab with many commands related to image formatting and editing.
Add an image to your document and select it. Once the image is selected, check if you have access to the Picture Format tab. If you want, you can add some styling to the image.

Task: Hide and restore the selection ribbon
The selection ribbon can be hidden so that only the tab names are visible. In this case, there is more space in the window for the document's content. When a tab name is clicked on with the mouse (single click), the ribbon appears, but disappears again when clicking anywhere in the document.
